    El presente trabajo trata sobre la vida y obra de Pedro Sánchez de Tagle, personaje oriundo de las montañas de Santander. Gracias a su habilidad en los negocios llegó a acumular un sorprendente poder económico a más de ocupar notables cargos políticos en la Nueva España. Los Sánchez de Tagle, a principios del siglo xviii, lograron ser una de las familias más influyentes de la ciudad de México y sus intereses económicos los llevaron a establecerse en Filipinas y otras provincias de ultramar con el fin de mantener sus negocios. Ramas de esta familia serían la base de otras fortunas durante el siglo XVIII.

    The present publication deals with the life and work of Pedro Sánchez de Tagle, a native of the Santander mountains. Thanks to his ability in business, he managed to gain a surprising economic power as well as to occupy noteworthy political positions in New Spain. The Sánchez de Tagle, in the early 18th century, managed to be one of the most influential families in Mexico City and their economic interests led them to settle in the Philippines and other provinces overseas with the motive of managing their businesses. Branches of this family would become the base of other fortunes during the 18th century.
