This paper focuses on African oral narratives - and concerns themes, classification, structure, language and characterisation, with little attention paid to performance aesthetics - this paper wishes to demonstrate the fact that storytelling is a veritable art form, as collected in Nwehland as a case study. The study wants to focus on the storytelling event, the aesthetics of the art (the structure of performance, the organisation of a tale, the resourcefulness of the narrator, and the role of the audience) showing the social relevance of this art form.
