  • Where did Ovid get Echo from, and why make her a talker, associated with Narcissus, when she is usually a singer, chased by Pan ? The gamut of readings since Blanchot tends to concentrate on Narcissus ; and yet, is it not, as Derrida suggests, Echo who, loving, escapes the narcissism of the subject into subjectivity, while showing the suffering of he who cannot love, or hear, another than himself as other ?
