El Hombre Maltratador en el entorno de su Pareja (HMP) muy pocas veces cree que está cometiendo una agresión, que es merecedor de pena criminal o que necesita ayuda; menos aún la atención psicológica. Los pocos casos que hemos trabajado llaman la atención por la fuerza de su convicción de cambiar, la rapidez con la que llegan a conclusiones positivas para ese cambio y su persistencia en la consulta, luego de haberse decidido, inicio del cambio ya.
El Análisis de Datos Cualitativos ayudó a sistematizar las experiencias de ayuda ofreciendo un modelo a partir de un caso en la atención que ofrece el Centro de Estudios de la Mujer de la UCV (Convenio con Fundamujer) utilizando la Entrevista Enfocada (Ruiz-Ispizúa, 1989) Los principales resultados apuntan a la influencia en la decisión de actitudes de la pareja, del entorno familiar y vecinal, la inconformidad por el rechazo y de su entorno proporcionando, finalmente, una serie de elementos de afianzamiento en su nueva posición que ?despejan? (para utilizar las palabras del mismo sujeto) el conocimiento y el camino para proporcionar mejor ayuda, diseñar prevención y continuar investigando.

The man maltreating his couple (MMC) scarcely thinks he is committing an aggression to deserve a punishment, or that he has to be helped, not by any means that he needs psychological aid. The few male cases we have looked into bring our attention due to the force of conviction they bear to change, the speed to draw positive conclusions to seize that change, and the perseverance kept for consultation after the decision is made.
The analysis on qualitative data aided for the systematisation of experiences about help delivering a model from a case of assistance rendered by the Woman Study Centre of Universidad Central de Venezuela (Agreement with Fundamujer), using the Focused Interview (Ruiz-Ispizúa, 1989).
The main results point to the influence in decision on attitudes of the couple, the context of family and neighbourhood, the disagreement for the rejects received and the environment, giving finally a series of elements to reinforce the new position gained which «clear up» (to use the same words from the subject involved) the knowledge and the road necessary to provide aid, design the prevention and going on the research.
