  • Resumen
    • español

Este artículo ofrece pruebas sobre la etimología del adverbio medieval m(i)entre 'mientras', distinta de la de DUM INTERIM, la más extendida hasta el momento pero no probada documentalmente. Tras consultar numerosos diccionarios, monografías y gramáticas que se han ocupado de este término, fue necesario llevar a cabo una investigación basada en corpus de textos latinos y romances con objeto de encontrar las variantes idóneas para defender la existencia de otra etimología.

In this article I tests on the etymology of the medieval adverb mientre 'while', different from DUM INTERlM, the most repeated hypothesis, which has been not proved with documentary evidences. After checking a great number of dictionaries, monographs and grammars that have dealt with this word, it was necessary to do a research work based on some corpus of Latin and Romance texts in order to find more suitable variants to defend the existence of another etymology.
