    El último análisis exhaustivo de la transmisión manuscrita avéstica fue el realizado por K.F. Geldner a finales del s.XIX. Los análisis posteriores se han basado en los datos ofrecidos por Geldner. En el marco del proyecto Avestan Digital Archive es la primera vez que se han vuelto a ver gran parte de los manuscritos utilizados por Geldner y otros muchos que él no vio. Gracias a ello podemos ofrecer en el presente artículo una descripción general de los manuscritos avésticos, de su tipología e historia. Se destacan especialmente aquellos aspectos que en la presentación de Geldner son erróneos o no quedan suficientemente claros. Por último se hace bastante hincapié en la presentación de los numerosos manuscritos del Avesta con origen en Irán que han aparecido recientemente. Desgraciadamente Geldnertuvo acceso a muy pocos manuscritos de este tipo para la realización de su edición a pesar de que son probablemente el tipo de manuscritos más relevante para el proceso editorial.

    The last detailed analysis of the Avestian written transmission was done by K.F. Geldner at the end of the 19th Century. Later analyses have been based on the data provided by Geldner. In the context of the Avestan Digital Archive most of the manuscripts used by Geldner have been examined again as well as a lot of of manuscripts that remaind unknown to him. Thus we present in this paper a general description of the Avestan manuscripts, their typology and their history. We emphasize the aspects that have been presented by Geldner wrongly or at least not in a clear way. One of main topics of the paper is the presentation of several Avestan manuscripts of Iranian origin that have been discovered in recent times. Unfortunately not many manuscripts of this type were available to Geldner, although this class is likely to be the most important for editorial purposes.
