Resumen de Zur Rechtfertigung von Wissenschaft

Erhard Denninger

  • The double core thesis of this essay is, that ,,science“ cannot ,,scientifically“ be justified as for its moral legitimacy nor that there is any need for that.

The legitimating narrative of the German philosophical idealism (W. v. Humboldt, J. G. Fichte) with its educational ideal of the moral perfection of the individual had failed at the latest since the end of World War One. More recent attempts of legitimation by enriching the concept of science by “Bildungswissen” (M. Scheler) or “Orientierungswissen” (J. Mittelstraß) did not get beyond mere appellative function. Consequently, science and research, an original function of human existence, with regard to the struggle for their material resources, are referred to the common arena of politics.
