    Joxe Arratibel Zurutuza (Ataun, 1923-Estibalitz, 2011).

    Fue fraile benedictino y escritor. Fue autor de más de un libro de narraciones populares que oyó en edad temprana en su caserío natal. Sin embargo, no se decidió a escribirlos y publicarlos hasta la década de los 70, atendiendo la petición de diferentes personas que visitaban el monasterio de Estibalitz (Araba), donde Arratibel residió la mayor parte de su vida. Kontu zarrak (La Gran Enciclopedia Vasca, 1980, Kontu Zaharrak, Erein, 1995) es su obra más importante, y prácticamente la única, pues de aquella derivaron obras menores como Erramun eta Mirentxu (Erein, 1997), Sorginen Urrezko Maindirea (Erein, 1999), o Izugarriak (Pamiela, 2008). Está considerado como uno de los últimos narradores de la literatura oral en euskera.

    En este artículo, su autor refleja uno de los últimos diálogos mantenidos con Joxe Arratibel, cuando ya enfermo de Alzheimer, había perdido su capacidad de habla y, quién sabe, su memoria.

    A falta de interlocución, el autor devuelve a Arratibel algunos apuntes de su biografía a modo de: «¿Te acuerdas, Joxe?».

    Joxe Arratibel Zurutuza (Ataun, 1923-Estibalitz, 2011) was a Benedictine monk and writer. He was the author of several books of popular narrations that he heard at a young age on the Basque farm where he was born. Nevertheless, it was not until the 1970s that he decided to write them down and have them published in response to a request from various people who visited the monastery at Estibalitz (Araba), where Arratibel spent most of his life. Kontu zarrak (La Gran Enciclopedia Vasca, 1980, Kontu Zaharrak, Erein, 1995) is his most important work and practically the only one since from it spawned lesser works like Erramun eta Mirentxu (Erein, 1997), Sorginen Urrezko Maindirea (Erein, 1999), or Izugarriak (Pamiela, 2008). He is regarded as one of the last narrators of oral literature in Basque.

    In this article its author reflects on one of the last conversations he had with Joxe Arratibel who, by that time, was afflicted by Alzheimer�s and had lost his ability to speak and, who knows, his memory as well. For want of interlocution, the author refers to some notes in Arratibel�s biography and asks him: �Do you remember that, Joxe?�
