    El filósofo norteamericano Richard Rorty propone una filosofía de la contingencia como forma de aceptar un mundo sin esencias. Para ello la filosofía debe renunciar a la búsqueda del conocimiento por la esperanza y aceptar que vivimos en un mundo complejo y multicultural sin posibilidad de encontrar universales interculturales. A lo único que podemos aspirar es a confiar en que el futuro será mejor que el pasado. En este sentido, el papel de la filosofía se asemeja más a la literatura que a una disciplina científica.

    La nueva filosofía no intenta ser una solución a la crisis de la razón sino su superación en lo que él llama el neopragmatismo, que implica dos actitudes fundamentales: la aceptación de la contingencia y la reconstrucción del sujeto moral de la Modernidad como un individuo liberal e ironista. Es de esta manera, según Rorty, como el pragmatismo se sitúa así en la culminación del pensamiento ilustrado que recoge lo mejor de las dos tradiciones más importantes de la filosofía contemporánea: el romanticismo y el positivismo

    The American philosopher Richard Rorty encourages a philosophy of contingency as a means of accepting a world without essences. Accordingly, Philosophy must substitute hope for knowledge and accept we live in a complex, multicultural world with no possibilities of finding universal, intercultural values. We have to trust in that the future will be better than the past. Therefore, the role of Philosophy is closer to Literature than to Science. The new posphilosophy abandons its objective of being a solution to the crisis of reason but it tries instead to supersede Modernity and become whatRorty calls the neopragmatism.

    This implies two different attitudes: the assumption of contingency and the rebuilt of the modern moral agent as a liberal--�].ironist self. For Rorty, the pragmatism means the final stage of the Enlightment .thought from a different point of view, as the result of two traditions of modern philosophy: the Romanticism and the Analytic Philosophy
