    The investigation concerning the wet nurses and workforce in Rio de Janeiro at the XIX century. In accordance with the most recent theoretical and methodological perspectives in the studies of women and slavery in Brazil, there were posed some questions about the images built at an urban scenario. Representations, distinct symbols and connotations on the wet nurses� practice, the role they fulfilled in this society, their daily occupations, etc, all of this was identified as well as the classifications based on the social structure and race that were set in motion before the relations developed between the landlord and his slaves.

    O trabalho a ser apresentado é uma investigação sobre amas-de-leite, relações de gênero e mercado de trabalho no Rio de Janeiro escravista do século XIX.

    Acompanhando perspectivas teórico - metodológicas mais recentes nos estudos sobre história das mulheres e escravidão no Brasil levantamos questões a respeito de imagens construídas num cenário escravista urbano. Representações, símbolos e significados diversos sobre as práticas das amas-de-leite, o papel social desempenhado, o cotidiano da ocupação vão sendo identificadas, assim como as classificações sócioraciais processadas diante das relações senhor�escravo.
