    El nombre Cristóbal significa portador de Cristo. Santo legendario encarnado por un soldado en busca del amo más poderoso del mundo, se pone al servicio de un rey, pero cuando éste muestra su miedo al diablo, se pone al servicio de Satán, al que a su vez abandona al ser derrotado por la visión de una cruz en el camino. Un ermitaño le habla de Cristo como el amo poderoso que busca, y para encontrarlo se pone al servicio de los viajeros y peregrinos que debían vadear un río sin puente.

    Un día, cuando está transportando a un niño, Cristóbal siente un peso progresivo que le hunde en las aguas, necesitando del apoyo de un tronco seco para llegar a la otra orilla. Allí un ermitaño le guía en la noche y el niño se revela como soberano de cielo y tierra, lo que demuestra haciéndole clavar su cayado en la tierra, que pronto se convierte en una palmera colmada de dátiles.

    The name Christopher means Christ-bearer. It refers to a legendary saint who originally was a soldier in search of the world's most powerful master. He entered the service of a king, but when the king showed fear of the devil, he pledged himself to Satan, but he also left his service after he had a vision of the cross on his way to him. A hermit tells the soldier of the Christ as the powerful master that he was looking for, but in order to find him he had to place himself at the service of travellers and pilgrims that had to cross a river without a bridge. One day, when he was transporting a child, Christopher felt a progressive weight that sank him in the water, which required him to support himself and the child on a dry trunk in order to get to the other side. When he reached the other side, a hermit guided him in the night and the child is revealed as the King of Heaven and Earth by making him drive his wooden staff into the ground, which soon becomes a palm full of dates.
