    La División Española de Voluntarios (DEV), también conocida como División Azul, no fue la única ayuda del gobierno de Franco a las operaciones militares alemanas en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, pero sí fue la contribución española más importante a la campaña del Tercer Reich para la invasión de la URSS y la aniquilación del régimen soviético. El artículo repasa la organización y composición de la DEV, así como su integración en la Wehrmacht, y analiza cuánta fuerza militar aportó España, respecto a sus disponibilidades, y su valor en la invasión de la URSS, es decir, sus capacidades, las tareas que le fueron encomendadas en el frente norte en tanto que división de infantería hipomóvil de un Ejército del Heer y el resultado ofrecido en el campo de batalla. Las operaciones bélicas que afectaron a la DEV, como la batalla de Krasnyj Bor, están contextualizadas, para apreciar que esta unidad formó parte de un Ejército y en consecuencia estuvo sujeta a las iniciativas ofensivas y defensivas de la Wehrmacht. El texto finaliza con una reflexión sobre los cometidos de la DEV y los resultados obtenidos.

    The Spanish Division of Volunteers (DEV), also known as Blue Division, wasn’t the only help of Franco’s government for the German’s military operations in World War II, but it was the most valuable contribution of Spain to the III Reich’s campaign for the invasion of the URSS and the annihilation of the soviet regime. The article reviews the organization and composition of the DEV, as well as its integration into the Wehrmacht, and analizes the Spanish military contribution with respect to their availability and its value in the URSS invasion, ie, its capacity, the chores that were assigned on the nor-thern front as part of the Infantry Division of a Heer Army and the result provided in the battlefield. The military operations that affected the DEV, like the Krasnyj Bor battle, are contextualized to be able to appreciate that this unit was part of an Army and in consequence was subject to the Wehrmacht offensive and defensive initiatives. The text ends with a reflection of the tasks of the DEV and the results.
