    El presente artículo analiza el proceso de implementación de la alta velocidad ferroviaria en Estados Unidos en el contexto del programa federal impulsado a partir de 2009. El artículo se divide en cuatro partes. En una primera parte, se ofrece una síntesis de la evolución histórica de las iniciativas en materia de alta velocidad promovidas desde mediados de los años 1960. La segunda parte muestra la situación actual del transporte ferroviario de pasajeros. La tercera parte analiza el desarrollo del programa de alta velocidad impulsado por el ejecutivo federal a partir de 2009. La última parte del artículo identifica las principales oportunidades y amenazas a las que se enfrenta el desarrollo de la alta velocidad en este país.

    This article analyses the process of implementation of high-speed rail in the Unites States in the context of the federal program promoted starting from 2009. The article is divided in four parts. In the first part, a synthesis of the historical evolution of the high-speed rail initiatives beginning the mid 1960�s is provided. The second part shows the current situation of the passenger rail transportation. The third part analyses the development of the high-speed rail program which has been promoted by the federal government since 2009. The last part of the article identifies the main opportunities and threats which the development of highspeed rail faces in this country.
