    A mobilidade urbana é um dos mais importantes atributos das grandes cidades contemporâneas. Em Salvador, o modelo predominante é centrado no uso do automóvel e na falta de integração entre os modais existentes, além da não existência de um transporte de massa eficiente que atenda à população. Este artigo pretende mostrar como se deu a evolução dos transportes urbanos na Cidade do Salvador, como essa evolução favoreceu a articulação espacial da Cidade e como os projetos elaborados pelo poder público para melhorar o sistema de transportes para a Cidade são inconstantes e fragmentados, e praticamente não foram finalizados ou simplesmente sofreram adaptações que não representam melhorias e sim soluções imediatas e paliativas.

    The urban mobility is one of the most important attributes of the big modern cities. In Salvador, the prevailing model is based on the use of the automobile and on the lack of integration between the existing modals, yonder the non existence of an efficient public transport that supports the population. This article presents how the evolution of urban transportation in Salvador happened, how this evolution assisted to the spatial development of the city and how the projects elaborated by the government to improve the transport system of the city are unstable and fragmented, and practically were not finished or just suffer adaptations that do not represent improvements, but immediate and palliative solutions.
