La vinculación entre Italia e Inglaterra frente a Francia y Rusia matizó la relación de Madrid con Roma primero en la negociación de un acuerdo con Estados Unidos para evitar la guerra y luego en la salida que se quiso dar a una crisis que se alargaba hasta afectar a la situación en el Mediterráneo. Italia midió los efectos que en esta área podría tener la derrota española.

The ties between Italy and England in front of France and Russia acted upen the relations between Madrid and Rome, at first in negotiation to achieve an agreement with the United States to avoid the war, and secondly, in the proposed solutioin to a crisis which prolonged itself as to affect the situation in the Mediterranean See. Italy considered the consequences of a Spanish defeat upon this area.
