    This paper attempts to the understanding of the subjective processes of contemporary man and the context in which today's workers are embedded at the light of authors such as Freud, Baudelaire, Hobsbawm and Berman. From these authors and events that marked changes of the twentieth century, this article is composed of contexture that help the understanding of the capture the subject by the signs of modernity and by the ideals of production in contemporary work. It is composed of marks of the time of creation of the ordinary man, man or woman who faces in his/her daily lives the consequences of the paradoxes of modernity.

    Este artigo2 procura compreender, a luz de autores como Freud, Baudelaire, Hobsbawm e Berman, os processos de subjetivação do homem contemporâneo e o contexto em que os trabalhadores da atualidade estão inseridos. A partir destes autores e de acontecimentos que marcaram as mudanças do século XX, este artigo é composto de tessituras que auxiliam a compreensão sobre a captura do sujeito pelos signos da modernidade e pelos ideais de produção no contexto de trabalho. É composto de marcas do tempo da criação do homem comum, homem ou mulher a viver em seu cotidiano as consequências dos paradoxos da modernidade.
