Barcelona va es devenir durant la Guerra Civil la primera gran ciutat occidental de la hist ` oria que, malgrat trobar-se en la rereguarda, va patir bombardejos aeris sistematics i massius contra objectius no militars. Aquesta circumstancia va comportar que les institucions i la poblacio barcelonines es mobilitzessin rapidament per construir i habilitar tunels i cambres subterranis com a mitja de proteccio davant aquesta amenaça inedita. El present article repassa la historia d�aquests refugis i reflexiona sobre la seva situació actual i el seu valor patrimonial a partir de l�analisi d�alguns casos paradigmatics.
Barcelona became during the Spanish Civil War the first western big city of the history that, in spite of being in the rearguard, suffered systematic and massive air-raids against non-military targets. This circumstance entailed that the institutions and the population of Barcelona moved in a fast way to build and fit up underground tunnels and chambers as a means of protection against this new threat. The present article revises the history of these air-raid shelters and reflects on their current situation and their patrimonial value focusing on the analysis of some paradigmatic cases.
