This article intends to discuss aspects related to the performance of the mathematics teacher in the professional field taking into account their attitudes and education, and also the external elements which interfere directly in the process, such as the society configuration, the teacher�s vision of themselves and the position they have during the pedagogical practice. It is highlighted here the importance of the continuing education based on reflection as a way to experience incorporation and constant evolution. The proposal to rethink the educational groundings is based on the ideals of citizenship insertion and the formation of the citizens, building, therefore, consistent knowledge. This way, it is built a bridge between the mathematical knowledge and its teaching, and the education to citizenship. Through analyses done and the questions raised, the educational professional will find not only a final answer for the questions, but will find the desire to question continuously and therefore change themselves.

Este artigo pretende discutir aspectos relativos à atuação do professor de matemática no âmbito profissional levando em consideração suas atitudes e formação, além dos elementos externos que interferem diretamente no processo, como a configuração da sociedade, a visão do professor sobre si mesmo e a postura adotada durante a prática pedagógica. Destaca-se aqui a importância da formação continuada com base na reflexão como caminho para incorporação de experiência e evolução constantes. A proposta de repensar as bases da educação baseia-se nos ideias de inserção da cidadania e da formação de cidadãos, construindo, assim, conhecimento consistente. Dessa forma, cria-se uma ponte entre o saber matemático e seu ensino e a educação para a cidadania. A partir das análises feitas e das indagações levantadas, o profissional da área educacional encontrará não uma resposta definitiva para seus questionamentos, mas sim a vontade de continuar sempre a indagar e, dessa forma, transformar-se.
