Resumen de O funcionalismo e o gerativismo: principais características e expoentes

  Em todas as áreas da ciência, há teorias que se propõem a explicar fenômenos. O conjunto de teorias que podem ser aproximadas ou relacionadas são comumente reconhecidas, na esfera científica, pelo termo �correntes teóricas�. Na área de Linguística, cujo foco é pesquisar os fenômenos da língua, as principais correntes teóricas são o Estruturalismo, o Gerativismo e o Funcionalismo. A escolha por analisar essas duas correntes se deu pelo fato de que seus objetos de estudo são totalmente distintos. Enquanto os gerativistas veem a língua como uma propriedade inata condicionada pelo comportamento humano, os funcionalistas partem do princípio de que a língua é um instrumento a ser utilizado com um propósito. Assim, o objetivo desse artigo foi elencar as principais características, objetos e pressupostos de ambas correntes por meio das ideias de seus principais expoentes.

  In every area of science, there are theories which aim at explaining their phenomena. The set of theories which may be approximated or related are commonly recognized through the term �theoretical chains�.

  The focus of Linguistics, as a scientific field, is to research language phenomena and its principal theoretical chains are the Structuralism, the Gerativism and the Functionalism. The choice for analyzing both chains can be explained by the fact that their study object are completely distinct. While the gerativists see language as an innate property of human beings conditioned by behavior, the functionalists´ assumption is that language is an instrument to be used for a purpose. The objective of this article was to list some of the main characteristics of both theories, objects and assumptions by means of their main exponents´ ideas.
