    The present investigation refers to the transcendence that leads to the disclosing of the novel �A Terceira Margem do Rio, Primeiras Estórias (The Third Edge of the River, First Stories (1962), written by Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967). Through the critical purpose and the analysis of the novel we try to disclose the aspect of the unutterable in the �rosiana� crossing. The work is inspired into two tendencies of the Brazilian literature on the first half of the 20th century: the regionalism and the psychological novel. The reality and the culture of the Brazilian wilderness life is portrayed in a vast linguistic and literary creation, a work of universal reach. Guimarães Rosa makes use of mythology, legends and poetic myth in order to transcend the esthetic models. By analyzing the work it is possible to catch a sight of the creation of a narrator who is at the same time individual and collective since he speaks for the community and asks for the complicity of an interlocutor, who has the courage to go through the paths of reading, and putting him up to venture more and more through the paths of this vast universe, for the more we go into it the more we discover about it, mixing imagination, reality and poetry.

    Este trabalho tem o propósito de enfocar a transcendência, que norteia o desvendamento do conto �A Terceira Margem do Rio�, da obra Primeiras Estórias (1962), de Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967). Por meio da fortuna crítica e da análise do conto procura-se desvendar aspectos do indizível a partir da travessia rosiana. A obra inspira-se em duas vertentes da literatura brasileira da primeira metade do século XX: o regionalismo e o romance psicológico. A realidade e a cultura sertaneja se transfiguram em retratos de grandes inventividades lingüísticas e literárias, em uma obra de alcance universal. Guimarães Rosa lança mão da mitologia, de lendas e do mito poético para transcender aos padrões estéticos. Na obra analisada entrevê a criação de um narrador que é ao mesmo tempo individualizado e coletivo, já que fala pela comunidade e pede a cumplicidade de um interlocutor, que tenha coragem de se embrenhar pelos caminhos da leitura, instigando-o a se aventurar mais de uma vez pelas veredas desse vasto universo. Quanto mais se adentra, mais se descobre, mesclando imaginação, realidade e poesia.
