Guadalupe, cultura barroca e identidad criolla

    El presente artículo tiene como objetivo plantear que la creación del mito guadalupano en la Nueva España, y más específicamente en la Ciudad de México, contó con la creatividad del incipiente patriotismo criollo del Barroco novohispano. Lo mismo ocurrió en otras latitudes iberoamericanas, como Lima y Quito, como un fenómeno característico del Barroco hispanoamericano, que recurre a elementos comunes como la alusión al Apocalipsis de San Juan, el patronato de vírgenes y santos como representación patriótica y como expresión del sector criollo, entre otros.

    In this paper it is proposed that in New Spain in general, and in Mexico city in particular, the creation of the mythology concerning the Virgin of Guadalupe fed on the incipient patriotismo of the "criollo" population of the baroque period. The same thing can be seen in other Latin America religions, a exepmplified by Lima and Quito, as a characteristic phenomenon of baroque Spanish America, if attention is pais to commons elements, such as reference to the Book of Revelation, the patronage of virgins and saints as patriotic representations, an as espresion of the "criollo" sector.
