    El artículo trata las hipótesis más fundadas para reconstruir los acontecimientos históricos que llevan a Hierón a neutralizar el poder mamertino en el NE de Sicilia. Creemos que la cronología de ésta esposterior a la generalmente aceptada, y especialmente la batalla central de todo este desarrollo, la del río Longano, la victoria más importante de la biografía militar de Hierón.
