El gobernante "autokrator": de Sócrates a Platón

    Este artículo, en su primera parte, examina algunos textos clásicos significativos sobre la historia política de Atenas en el último cuarto del siglo V y concluye que la democracia ateniense reservaba el término "autokrator" solamente para la asamblea o para los órganos que dimanan de ella. En la segunda parte se muestra cómo en la teoría política iniciada por Sócrates y desarrollada por Platón la competencia científica hace innecesaria, e incluso nociva, la participación popular en el gobierno. Por ello el filósofo rey debe ser "autokrator" y "anypeuthynos".

    In the first part of this paper, some classical texts on the political history of Athens in the last quarter of the fifth century are examined. The conclusion is that the Athenian democracy reserved the term "autokrator" only for the Assembly of the People or for the organs that spring from it. In the second part it is shown how in the political theory initiated by Socrates and developed by Plato the scientific competence makes unnecessary and, even, injurious the participation of the people in the government. For that reason the philosopher king must be "autokrator" and "anypeuthynos".
