La trágica demolición de la Iglesia de Santa María de Castellón trajo consigo la destrucción de la imagen de la Virgen con el Niño que presidía el tímpano de la portada norte. Varios fragmentos recogidos entonces por un transeúnte han esperado más de cincuenta años para ver la luz, y constituirse en la base de un interesante ejercicio de anastilosis que ha devuelto al nuevo templo la imagen recuperada.

Restoration of the statue of the Virgin Mary on the north Portal of the cathedral church of Castellón. The tragic demolition of the church of Santa María de Castellón includes the destruction of the statue of the Virgin and Child that presided the tympanum of the north portal. Several fragments rescued by a passer-by at the time have waited fifty years to come to light and form the basis of an interesting exercise in anastylosis that has restored the reconstructed statue to the temple.
