    This article aims to offer some thoughts on the role of professional librarian and its social role as a bibliotherapist using the bibliotherapy as a therapeutic resource. It proposes the practice of reading to provide interpretation of the text, contributing in the process of socialization, helping to achieve psychological well-being and mental health. The study points out to the important role of reading as a leisure activity by providing the pacification of emotions, relief of tensions, anxieties and fears as well as an aid for medical treatment as an adjunct in the process of healing people.

    O presente artigo tem por finalidade apresentar algumas reflexões sobre a atuação do profissional bibliotecário e seu papel social como biblioterapeuta utilizando a biblioterapia como recurso terapêutico. Propõe práticas de leitura que proporcionem a interpretação do texto, contribuindo no processo de sociabilização, auxiliando para o bem - estar psicológico e saúde mental. O estudo aponta para o importante papel da leitura enquanto atividade de lazer por proporcionar a pacificação das emoções, alívio das tensões, angústias e medos, bem como auxiliar no tratamento médico como coadjuvante do processo de cura de pessoas.
