Objetivos: Establecer las preocupaciones fundamentales de la Iglesia colonial, representada en la figura del Obispo Mariano Martí (finales del siglo XVIII).
Metodología: Análisis de las normas y preceptos eclesiásticos presentes en las Constituciones Sinodales de 1687; y análisis de los escritos del Obispo Mariano Martí concernientes a su visita pastoral (1772-1794), específicamente el �Libro de decretos�, número 87 (AAC, Sección Libros) y los �Borradores� (AAC, Sección Episcopales). Resultado: Para finales del siglo XVIII, las necesidades y preocupaciones fundamentales de la Iglesia colonial �Provincia de Venezuela� se pueden resumir en: a) adoctrinamiento y protección del indígena; b) control social y religioso de curas y feligreses; y c) cumplimiento de la normativa eclesiástica vigente. Conclusiones: Para el Obispo Mariano Martí, curas y feligreses debían procurar una vida cristiana y disciplinada, apegada en todo a la normativa eclesiástica de la época.
Objectives: To establish the fundamental preoccupations of the represented colonial Church in the figure of Bishop Mariano Martí (end of century XVIII). Methodology: Present analyses of the norms and ecclesiastical rules in the Sinodales Constitutions of 1687; and analysis of writings of Martí Bishop concerning its pastoral visit (1772-1794), specifically: the �decree Book�, number 87 (AAC, Section Books) and the �Rough drafts� (AAC, Section Episcopal). Result: For end of century XVIII; the necessities and fundamental preoccupations of the colonial Churh �Province of Venezuela- can be summarized in: a) indoctrination and protection of the native; b) social and religious control of cure and faithfuls; and c) fulfilment of the effective ecclesiastical norm. Conclusions: For Bishop Mariano Martí, you cure and faithfuls had to try a christian life and disciplines, become attached in everything to the ecclesiastical norm of the time.
