    Los conceptos �simbólico� e �imaginario� son muy útiles para analizar en términos culturales la tensión entre lo instituido y lo instituyente que atraviesa de parte a parte lo social. En el artículo se precisa el sentido de lo simbólico partiendo de la tradición estructuralista y se llega hasta lo imaginario de la mano de autores que han sentido la necesidad de desbordar ese paradigma. Sin embargo, una apuesta seria por lo imaginario exige abandonar el ámbito de la ciencia, en este caso la sociología, y entrar en el del arte.

    Pero no en cualquier clase de arte. El arte chino da la impresión de ser más capaz que el occidental de tratar con la potencia imaginal de lo social.

    The concepts symbolic and imaginary are useful to analyze in cultural terms the tension between the instituted and that which institutes that cuts through the social from side to side. In the article the sense of the symbolic is precised starting from the structuralist tradition, reaching at the way to the imaginary from the hand of authors that have felt the necessity to give free rein to this paradigm. However, a serious bet toward the imaginary demands an abandonment of the scope of science, in this case sociology, and entering the one of art. But not any type of art. Chinese art gives the impression of being more capable than western art in dealing with the imaginal power of the social.
