Análisis del papel de los organismos financieros internacionales en la financiación de turismo

    En general, se viene asumiendo el potencial del turismo como impulsor del desarrollo económico. De hecho, los organismos financieros internacionales financian la puesta en marcha de proyectos turísticos con el fin de contribuir al desarrollo económico de los países menos avanzados y, con ello, conseguir sus objetivos de reducción de la pobreza y mejora de la calidad de vida de sus gentes. Sin embargo, la realidad es que muchos de estos proyectos no alcanzan las expectativas generadas. El objetivo de esta investigación es doble: conocer las principales características de estos organismos y, sobre todo, su papel en la financiación de la actividad turística e identificar el tipo de financiación canalizada por estos organismos hacia proyectos de desarrollo turístico, así como los principales instrumentos financieros utilizados, los criterios que guían la concesión de la misma e, incluso, su distribución geográfica. Se parte del convencimiento de que estos organismos se equivocan en el tratamiento concedido al turismo en su financiación, lo que les impide aprovechar todo el potencial de esta actividad económica para la consecución de sus objetivos.

    In general, we assume the potential of tourism as an engine of economic development. In fact, international financial institutions finance the implementation of tourism projects in order to contribute to the economic development of less advanced countries and thereby achieve their goals of reducing poverty and improving the quality of life of people. However, the reality is that many of these projects do not reach expectations. The objective of this research is twofold: to know the main characteristics of these organisms and especially their role in the financing of tourism activity and to identify the type of funding channeled through these agencies to tourism development projects, as well as the main financial instruments used, the criteria that guide granting the same, and even geographical distribution. We proceed from the belief that these organisms are wrong in the treatment accorded to tourism in its funding, leaving them unable to realize the full potential of this economic activity to achieve its objectives.
