    Se presenta un método simple para la estimación del diámetro sobre muñones en operaciones de poda comercial de especies forestales. Se basa en estimar el diámetro del fuste mediante una función de perfil de fuste, y agregarle un valor de engrosamiento dado por los muñones de poda. El engrosamiento promedio estimado para árboles de la procedencia Pinus taeda L. Marion fue de 3,3 cm. Como resultado de la prueba de validación se determinó que el error promedio de las predicciones fue de � 0,2 cm.

    A simple method for estimating the diameter over stubs in pruning operations of commercial trees plantations is presented. It is based on the estimation of the stem diameter at any height with a taper function and adding to this a value, due to the nodal swelling resulting from the branch stubs after Pruning. The mean nodal swelling estimated for trees of Pinus taeda L. Marion provenance was 3.3 cm. From the validation test the mean error of prediction was � 0.2 cm.
