Els tractaments de conservació i restauració dels pergamins en l'actualitat no sempre estan en conformitat amb la seva naturalesa, producte de la manufactura artesanal. La decadència del seu predomini com a suport d'escriptura va comportar també la gradual desaparició del coneixement de la complexitat tant de la seva elaboració com dels tractaments adequats per a la seva conservació i restauració. L'autor defensa que és necessari estudiar tant les formes de manufactura tradicionals com aprendre a observar atentament els diversos tipus de reparacions que en aquest material es van fer durant l'apogeu del mateix per poder avaluar-les, mantenir-les i, si és necessari, aplicar-les en les noves reparacions

At present, the conservation and restauration treatment of parchment is not at any time conforming to its nature, being a product of artisan manufacturing. The decline of its domination as a writing support implicated at the same time a gradual disappearance of the knowledge of the complexity of both its manufacturing and the appropriate treatments for its conservation and restoration. The author defends the necessity of studying the traditional manufacturing methods as well as learning to observe carefully the different types of restorations excuted during the glory days of the material, to be able to evaluate and maintain them, and if required, to apply them in new restorations
