    Uno de los cuestionamientos actuales a la investigación cualitativa tiene que ver con su potencial para describir adecuadamente la complejidad del mundo social contemporáneo. Dos aspectos son por lo menos llamados a redefinirse: los objetos de estudio, y los modos y medios de recolección y presentación de información. En primer lugar, se aborda la tensión entre la tecnología como herramienta y como lenguaje, evidenciando las limitaciones y, al mismo tiempo, las posibilidades que ésta ofrece a los estudios cualitativos, en particular, en el uso del hipertexto.

    En segundo lugar, se analiza el ciberespacio como una realidad emergente, como escenario social objeto de investigación y como una nueva metáfora para comprender el tránsito hacia teorías sociales de conocimiento mucho más complejas.

    One of the current questions about the qualitative reseach is its potential for describe the complexity of the contemporary world. There are two themes called to redefinition: the object of study, and the ways and media used to collect and present information. Firstly, we will see the tension between the technology as tool and as language, tension that evidence the limits and possibilities on the use of technologies in qualitative reseach, especially, we will study the case of hypertext. Secondly, we analyze the cyberspace as a new knowledge field, as a new social reality, object of research, and as a new metaphor to understand the emergency of more complex social knowledge theories.
