  • Resumen
    • Transportation is an important topic in tourism research, since the tourists journey to and from the destination is a fundamental component of the holiday. In island resorts, this issue assumes greater relevance as modes of transportation are limited. This paper analyses the travel behaviour of tourists holidaying on the island of Madeira, based on their type of air transport (scheduled airline flight, low-cost flight or charter flight). A trivariate probit model is used, taking into account the correlation between alternative transport types. The policy implications of the research findings, particularly those related to the management of tourist-based transportation modes, are discussed.
