    El fantasma de la colombianización recorre México. Se teme un escenario en el que el crimen organizado, el negocio de la droga y las guerrillas y autodefensas se articulan y socavan el poder del Estado. Algunos informes hablan incluso de México como un futuro «Estado fallido». El artículo discute estos argumentos. Aunque la violencia y el narcotráfico son un problema grave, constituyen un fenómeno muy diferente del colombiano: urbano más que rural, sin contenido político y asociado sobre todo al tráfico por la frontera con Estados Unidos. En suma, una violencia que se explica más por la globalización, la integración con eeuu y la descomposición del antiguo régimen que por una deriva a la colombiana.

    The specter of a «Colombianization» is haunting Mexico. The fear is of a scenario in which organized crime, the drug business, together with guerrillas and paramilitaries undermine the very basis of the State. Some reports even go as far as to refer to Mexico as a future «failed State». This article examines the arguments. Although violence and drug trafficking are a serious problem, they constitute a phenomenon very different from that of Colombia: urban rather than rural, without political content and associated above all with the frontier with the United States. In short, a violence to be explained more in terms of globalization, the integration with the us and the degeneration of the old order, rather than in terms of a Colombianization.
