Hoy nadie duda de que Estados Unidos es una democracia consolidada y que, no sin necesidad de grandes luchas, las mayorías nacionales fueron incorporándose al sistema político. De hecho, sigue siendo un modelo de articulación entre emocracia y liberalismo, dos términos siempre en tensión. El poder del dinero y del lobbying, junto con las restricciones que aún se mantienen sobre los pobres y los nuevos inmigrantes, dejan en evidencia las contradicciones que persisten entre el gobierno del pueblo y el gobierno de las corporaciones.

Today nobody doubts that the United States is a consolidated democracy, and not without need of the big fights, the national majorities were incorporated into the political system. In fact, it continues to be a model of articulation between democracy and liberalism, two terms that are forever in tension. The power of money and of lobbying, along with the restrictions that are still kept on the poor and new immigrants, leaves in evidence the contradictions that still persist between the government and the people, and the government and the corporations.
