Una de las características del capitalismo del siglo xxi es el auge del extractivismo, un fenómeno que no es nuevo pero que se ha reconfigurado al calor de las necesidades de la economía y el mundo global. El actual boom de los precios de las materias primas ha redibujado territorios, en el marco de leyes benévolas para las empresas extractivas. África y parte de Sudamérica son objetivo de firmas multinacionales que articulan intereses políticos, económicos y a menudo militares para llevar adelante sus negocios.

One of the characteristics of capitalism in the 21st century is the boom of extractivism, a phenomenon which is not new but which is reconfigured in the heat of the necessities of the economy and the global world. The current boom in prices of primary materials has redrawn territories, in the frame of laws benevolent to extractive businesses. Africa and part of South America are targets of international firms that articulate political, economic and sometimes military interests to move forward their businesses.
