Resumen
- The issue — recently of renewed interest — seems one only within the Western tradition : since when, and why ? Philological study shows our modern différenciation between — and amalgation of — four kinds of relation between the text and the image in Antiquity, not all of which are ekphrasis. As heirs and inventors of this typology, we can trace from the Modern period both the complexities of its descendance and the permanence of its ideal.
