El artículo es un examen pertinente de las controversias acerca del papel desempeñado por la energía elástica en el ciclo de estiramiento-acortamiento (SSC). Los autores han realizado un excelente trabajo al reunir datos de humanos y animales en los que la discrepancia se debe a menudo a la diferencia en el nivel de observación. La parte dedicada a la eficiencia en SSCs repetitivos es convincente. Goubel se refiere a «Does elastic energy enhance work and efficiency in the stretch-shortening cycle?» (JAB, 1997, 13, 389- 415), en el que sus autores abordan el papel del almacenamiento y reutilización de energía elástica en los ciclos de estiramiento-acortamiento, presentando el argumento de que en los movimientos discretos, tales como el salto vertical, la energía elástica no explica el aumento de trabajo debido al pre-estiramiento.

The article examines the controversies regarding the role played by elastic energy in the stretch-shortening cycle (SSC). The authors have executed an excellent work, bringing together human and animal data in which the discrepancy is often due to the difference in the level of observation. The part dealing with efficiency in repetitive SSCs is convincing. Goubel refers to «Does elastic energy enhance work and efficiency in the stretch-shortening cycle?» (JAB, 1997, 13, 389- 415), in which the authors address the role of storage and reutilization of elastic energy in stretch-shortening cycles while presenting the argument that for discrete movements such as the vertical jump, elastic energy does not explain the work enhancement due to the prestretch.
