    De manera urgente, el tema del encuentro con el �otro�, con la �alteridad�, se está poniendo en la agenda. La irrupción del otro en la vida privada de muchos �a una escala desconocida hasta ahora�, no siempre se ve como posibilidad de vivir mejor, de crecer, sino se ha convertido en problema.

    Hormiguean los fundamentalismos. Creyentes, cualquiera que sea su adherencia religiosa, frecuentemente usan sus textos sagrados como arma, como elemento de defensa de la posición tomada. Surge la pregunta en qué medida una lectura nueva, una lectura intercultural del subtexto religioso más importante de la humanidad �la Biblia� puede ofrecer una alternativa.

    At the present moment, the encounter with the other, with otherness and alterity, has become un urgent item of the agenda of mankind. The irruption of the other in the sphere of the private life of so many �at a scale unknown so far� is not always seen as a possibility to live better, to grow, to enrich oneself. Living together, accepting the other, has rather become a problem.

    All kinds of fundamentalisms are coming up. Believers, whatever their religious conviction may be, frequently use texts from their sacred books as a weapon, as an element to defend their taken position. This confronts us with the question as to what extent a new way of reading, a way of intercultural reading of mankind�s most important religious subtext �the Bible� could offer an alternative.
