  • Resumen
    • In this paper, the author introduces a heuristic procedure for the identification of benchmarking partners in an interactive database environment. The purpose of this paper is to present the applicability of the procedure for benchmarking hotel and restaurant operations on the Internet. The decision support system which is used for this experimental study is accessible on the World Wide Web where the data is obtained from Austrian small and medium-sized hotel enterprises. The system is based on a weighting model which uses managerial judgements in order to identify similar hotel and restaurant businesses and to guarantee representative samples for the analysis. It enables Austrian entrepreneurs as well as consultancy companies specializing in tourism to compare the performance of hotel and restaurant enterprises with others of a similar nature. In the present paper, the author gives a comprehensive description of the conceptual approach, the technical realization and experiences and implications with the system.
