The aim of this paper is to show some of the relationships between "words" and "images" in the definition of the disciplinary boundaries of bibliography and documentary sciences. The first part, after discussing the concept of "form", shows the relationships between some sections of the foundations of bibliography, identified in the Bibliotheca Universalis of Conrad Gesner, and the contemporary arts of memory, with the aim of showing the original integration of conceptual and visual devices in the organization of individual memory, then of the social memories and finally of the institutional memories. The second part discusses the concept of "information", and especially analyzes the ways in which this concept has been used in constructing the model and the jparadigm of the World Wide Web as an interconnected set of information contents.
