The first-year college experience is anxiety-producing, and for college students, especially those representing traditionally underserved populations, the experience can be particularly daunting. To mitigate against potential failure a father/son team, the father a professor of education and the son a professor of mathematics, pooled their expertise to create opportunities for successful learning. This action research study illustrates how the team focuses on providing low stress and high achievement, including multimodal activities and assessments.
