In this article the author describes her experiences in an effective, and cost-efficient way of teaching developmental mathematics online in a course that runs on its own once it is set up. The online course described here was created and implemented at Ramapo College. The course is an innovative method of teaching developmental mathematics in which no instructor needs to be hired and students are taught the material entirely by the computer while learning at their own pace. The article consists of three main parts, which describe the procedure used to set up the online course, show how students are being taught the material by the computer, and compare student performance in the online section to student performance in the traditional in-class sections of the course.
