Heavy ion induced rnodifications in the optical and structural properties of Kapton-H polymer

    • Heavy ion irradiation effects on optical and structural properties of Kapton-H polymer have been investigated. The polymer Kapton-H of 13 μm thickness was irradiated to 172 MeV Ag[superíndice 13+] ion using 15UD pelletron at IUAC, New Delhi. The changes induced in optical and structural properties are discussed by using UV- VIS and FTIR techniques. The variation in band gap energy E[subíndice g] and Urbacb's energy E[subínidec u] has been analyzed by using UV spectrophotometer. Whereas FTIR spectrum shows the absorption band in the range 4000-500 cm[subíndice -1] which are typically due to functional groups (e.g. OH, C=O, N-H, CH[subíndice 3] etc.), the experimental data seem to indicate admirable changes induced with heavy ions.
