Three-Dimensional Investigations of Stress-Intensity Factors in a Cracked Cylinder Made of Functionally Graded Materials

    • This article focused on three-dimensional analyses of an axially loaded cylinder which contains a semi-elliptical circumferential surface crack and made from a functionally graded material (FGM). The cylinder is assumed to be isotropic with exponentially varying elastic modulus through the thickness. The results which are normalized for the advantage of nondimensional analysis show that the material gradation and the crack geometry have significant influence on the amount and distribution of stress-intensity factors. Numerical results are given to assess the safety of the FGM and homogeneous cracked cylinder.
