  • Resumen
    • Taking emotions into account in the analysis of collective movements requires a great deal of methodological care. First of all, the vocabulary borrowed from the vernacular must be carefully (re)defined. For this purpose, recent progress in the neurosciences can be extremely helpful in distinguishing “feelings” from “emotions”. Moreover, shorthand concepts such as “moral shock” and “apparatus of sensitization” are essential in conducting an empirical enquiry. Finally, the attention given to emotions must be geared toward an analytical deconstruction of the various components of activism. This paper is based on the observation of animal rights activists.
