El autor sitúa el DGP como exponente paradigmático de la medicina genética predictiva de nuestro tiempo, hacien- do un repaso de la situación legal de esta técnica en España, en otros países europeos y en los Estados Unidos, así como poniendo de manifiesto las cuestiones de carácter bioético que plantea. Se alude igualmente a la posición sobre la materia de la Iglesia Católica, el protestantismo, el islam y el judaísmo, al tiempo que se comentan las principales corrientes éticas sobre el estatuto del embrión. Finalmente, se hace especial hincapié en la problemática biojurídica que presenta el DGP extensivo o con finalidad terapéutica para terceros, y en los casos de enfermedades de posible aparición tardía, multifactoriales o de expresión fenotípica variable.

The author considers PGD as a paradigm exponent of predictive genetics, reviewing the legal situation of this technique in Spain, in other European countries and the United States, as well as the bioethical aspects of the questions implied. He also takes into consideration the positions in this matter of the Catholic Church, Protestantism, Islam and Judaism, at the same time as commenting on the main ethical currents about embryo statute. Finally, special mention is made of the bio-judicial aspects presented by extensive PGD or with therapeutical objectives for others, and in the cases of diseases, multifactor or with variable phenotypical expression which could appear later.
