  • Resumen
    • This article argues that recent European interest in the concept of intercultural dialogue can be usefully related to Canadas approach in the governance of diversity. In fact, the successes and failures within and across Canadas three diversity pillarsAboriginal, English/French and Multiculturalcan be considered a type of historic and ongoing intercultural dialogue itself. The article suggests that historic attempts at homogenization in each of the three pillars have failed and that good governance of diversity is a dynamic process of constant re-negotiation. It concludes by arguing that civic unity and a sense of belonging in a diverse society are derived less from a static national model but from constructive questioning and openness on the part of the public to a nations constantly evolving collective identity.
