Violencia en la guerra civil y equidistancia: argumentos para no sucumbir al embrujo irresistible del punto medio

    Categorizar la violencia derivada de la guerra civil requiere situar en su contexto evolutivo el instrumental que suele manejarse para emprender aquella tarea. En este artículo se intentan dar argumentos para no tratar dicha violencia desde una complaciente y generalmente poco explicativa equidistancia, abordando de entrada la falsa neutralidad de ciertos conceptos cuyo carácter axiomático se viene dando por supuesto de modo creciente. Tras ello se analiza la gestación del término genocidio, su problemático empleo en el caso español y las posibles razones que impulsan a sus detractores más vehementes, para finalizar definiendo la coacción aplicada por los sublevados como un continuo en el que, a diferencia de lo ocurrido en el ámbito dominado por sus adversarios, se produjo inicialmente la institucionalización de una violencia ideada de forma preventiva, enormemente adaptativa, muy versátil y nuclear dentro de la estructura política de quienes se alzaron contra la República.

    In order to classify the violence derived from the civil war into categories, we must place the set of instruments which is normally used to tackle the issue into an evolutionary context. It this article, the author presents arguments against approaching the violence from an accommodating - and generally unenlightening - perspective of equidistance. The article tackles the "false neutrality" of certain concepts whose axiomatic character is increasingly being taken for granted. Subsequently, the article analyses development of the term "genocide", its problematic employment in the Spanish case, and the possible motives which drive the concept's most vehement detractors. Finally, the article defines the coercion applied by the rebels as a continuum in which - in contrast to what took place in the zone controlled by their adversaries - there occurred initially the institutionalisation of a violence designed to be preventative, adaptable and extremely versatile within the political structure of those who rose against the Republic.
