Partiendo de las características fisiológicas del cerebro humano, el autor muestra que la patente dualidad de nuestro pensamiento, que tradicionalmente hemos denominado mítico (o totalizador) y racional (o lineal-individualizador) en sus respectivas vertientes, tiene un fundamento en la propia biología, y que el hecho de haber primado a uno sobre otro según las etapas que se consideren, se debe a factores estrictamente culturales derivados de la forma de organizar la sociedad. Así, el cristianismo, al haber adoptado una concepción del tiempo que sin dejar de ser cíclica (mítica), es de trayectoria única (racional), ha introducido en nuestra civilización la fe en el progreso.

Leaving of the physiologic characteristics of human brain, the autor shows that the patent duality of our thought that traditionally have denominated mythical (or totalizer) and rational (orlineal-individualizing) in his respective slopes, he has a foundation in the own biology, and that the fact of having prevailed to one on other according to the stages that are considered, is due to derived strictly cultural factors in the way of organizing the society. This way, the Christianity, when having adopted a conception of the time that without stopping to be recurrent (mythical), it is of unique trajectory (rational), it has introduced in our civilization the faith in the progress.
