  • Resumen
    • This article offers the results of socio-anthropological research on the uses of the radio in Mexico City. The research objective is to find out how people symbolically appropriate media messages. It asks questions about the ways they use the radio and decode its messages, carefully distinguishing the diverse ways that different social groups integrate listening and media messages into their daily lives. While the unit of analysis is the family and home, it becomes clear that there are diverse publics, segmented by class or socio-cultural group, age and gender. The work shows how these factors affect the selection of radio programs and the interpretation of the media's messages
